FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Fairfield University Women's Basketball team will make their annual trip to Western New York for a two-game swing beginning with a contest against Canisius on Friday night at 7pm.
Â
Both the Stags and the Golden Griffins will be playing in their fifth MAAC game, with Fairfield holding an 0-4 record compared to Canisius' 3-1 mark.
Â
The Stags lost their fourth-straight conference game, falling to Saint Peter's 68-65 in front of over 2,000 local elementary school kids on Tuesday afternoon. Fairfield dominated the game over the first 27 minutes, building a 20-point third quarter lead, their second largest lead of the season. The Peacocks would rally over the final 13 minutes, netting 36 points during that span. Briyanah Richardson tallied 27 of her career-high 39 points in the second half.
Â
Khadidiatou Diouf led the Stags with a career-high 21 rebounds, the third most by a Stag in the Division I era. Katrina Fields was the last Stag to grab that many rebounds in a game, hauling in 24 on Jan. 11, 1983 at Army. The 21 rebounds was the most by a MAAC player this season and tied for the 11th most in a NCAA game this season.
Â
Fairfield also hit eight 3-pointers in their setback, led by a trio of long-range shots by
Eden Nibbelink. Over the last three games, the Stags have swished through 21 shots from behind the arc, the most in any three-game span this season.
Â
Casey Foley hit two of those long range shots, bringing her career number to 94. She also dished out three assists, including the 250th of her career. Foley becomes the 20th Stag all-time to reach that mark.
Â
The Griffs have won four of their last five games to bring their overall record to 5-10 and their conference mark to 3-1.
Â
Sara Hinriksdottir (13.1) and D'Jhai Patterson-Ricks (12.0) are the two Griffs who average double figures in scoring. Danielle Sanderlin hauls in 10.4 rebounds per game, pacing a Griffs team that ranks second in the MAAC in that category.
Â
Canisius is also a deep squad as they have 11 players averaging 10 or more minutes per game. All of those 11 players have connected on eight or more 3-pointers this season with Patterson-Ricks leading the way with 27 long range shots, and a .403 shooting percentage.
