WEST POINT, N.Y. – Fairfield women's tennis had a great showing at the West Point Invitational this weekend picking up multiple wins in Singles competition.
Sophia Prinos took down Gabrielle Bergeron from Bryant in the opening round of D Singles (8-5) and then defeated Elizabeth Kozyi of UConn in the second round (7-6 (3), 3-6, 10-8). She would fight her way through the quarterfinal match against Stephanie Dolehide from Army but fell by a score of (6-0, 6-2).
Jessica Pil defeated Alex Mircea of Quinnipiac in the first round of D Singles (8-3) before falling in the second round. Both
Courtney Connors and
Gabriella Campos won their matches in the opening round of E Singles but could not make it passed the second round.
Diana Prinos was defeated in the opening round of B Singles but picked up two wins in B Singles consolations defeating Proyfon Lohaphaisan of Quinnipiac (8-4) and then taking down Nathalie Joanlanne of Montana (8-5).
Aina March won a match in B Singles consolations as well defeating Bianca Bostrom of Montana (8-4).
Anna Komer also picked up a win in the C Singles consolations defeating Sophia Moeller of Marist (8-6).
"This was a very good tournament with some top level teams" said Head Coach
Jeff Bricker. "I was very happy with how we competed in Singles throughout the weekend. Sophia had a great run, beating a good UConn player before ultimately falling to the #1 seed in the quarterfinals. Everyone was able to get in on the winning and it should help our confidence as we continue to work our way through the fall season."
The Stags return to action on October 3 as they travel to Providence, Rhode Island to take on Providence at 3 P.M.
