HAMDEN, Conn. – Fairfield University women's tennis opened their season this weekend at the Quinnipiac Invitational.
In Singles Competition,
Anna Komer defeated Keira Tobia of Sacred Heart (6-1, 6-0) in the first round of Singles B. She was then beaten by Cassie Chung from UConn in the quarterfinals (4-6, 0-6). Freshman
Sophia Prinos picked up her first win as a Stag in Singles C, over Gabrielle Bergeron of Bryant (6-3, 6-3) before falling in the quarterfinals to Katya Martens of Boston University (2-6, 1-6).
Diana Prinos picked up a win in the Singles A consolation quarterfinals over Olivia Podsiebierski of Sacred Heart (8-4). Freshman
Aina March also defeated Adrianne Alfonso of Sacred Heart in the Singles B consolation quarterfinals by a score of (8-2).
In Doubles Competition,
Anna Komer and
Diana Prinos defeated Aidan Epstein and Mimi Dailey of Providence (6-1) before falling to Remi Ramos and Lily Burchell of Boston University (1-6) in the Doubles A quarterfinals.
Courtney Connors and
Sophia Prinos also took down Grace Goyette and Katie Markham from Providence in Doubles B (6-2) but then fell to Kamilla Nella and Layla Rodriguez of Quinnipiac (0-6) in the round of 16.
"We had a solid weekend at Quinnipiac against some very tough competition" said Head Coach
Jeff Bricker. "It was good to see the freshman on the court as well. Getting them acclimated to college play is important."
The Stags will return to action on Wednesday, September 19 at 3 P.M. at the Walsh Athletic Center Tennis Courts to host Sacred Heart.
