BRONX, N.Y. – First-year members of Fairfield University Women's Cross Country accounted for the Stags' top five finishers on Friday morning at the Br. Doyle Meet of Champions hosted by Iona. Mia Melao led the effort as Fairfield finished eighth of 11 Division I squads on the 5K course at Van Cortlandt Park in the Bronx.
 
Melao clocked a 59th-place time (among Division I runners) of 20:06.7 to finish just a step ahead of classmate Molly Silvestri's 20:07.1 mark. Rounding out the quintet of Stags scoring in the meet were Genevieve Connelly (20:19.7), Jane Frawley (20:40.0) and Alex Villalba (21:32.8).
 
Fairfield's eighth-place finish slotted them ahead of Hartford, LIU Brooklyn and St. Francis Brooklyn on the team leaderboard. #20 Indiana won the team title, led by individual pacesetter Katherine Receveur's winning time of 17:30.8. The Hoosiers nabbed five of the top 10 finishes to wrap up the victory.
