Stags Drop Final Game in Jacksonville

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Tim Zeng and Drew Arciuolo combined for six hits and three runs scored in the top two spots in the lineup, but it was not enough as the Fairfield University Baseball team was swept by the Jacksonville Dolphins with an 11-4 final score on Sunday.

The Stags (4-11) had a chance to jump out in front early as singles by Zeng, Arciuolo, and Jack Gethings loaded the bases to start the game. However, Jacksonville's (12-8) starter Austin Temple was able to get out of the jam with a double play and a strikeout.

The Dolphins were able to convert their chances in the early going by scoring four runs in the first two innings. The reigning ASUN Regular Season champions put up a three spot in the first inning with a RBI double by Angel Camacho and a two-run single by Jacob Southern.

The Stags would cut their 4-0 deficit in half in the fifth inning, loading the bases again as the top three hitters reached base again. Kevin Radziewicz would drive in a run with a walk and Drew Blake would plate a run with a fielder's choice.

Jacksonville extended their advantage with two runs in the fifth and three in the seventh, capped by a three-run home run by Sam Armstrong.

Fairfield would finish their scoring in the top half of the eighth with RBI singles by Arciuolo and Radziewicz.

The top four hitters in the lineup combined for nine of Fairfield's 11 hits while reaching base 13 times combined. Dylan Reynolds also reached base three times with two walks and a base hit while scoring a run.

The Stags have now finished their southern Spring Break trip and will return closer to home when they travel to regional power St. John's in Queens, N.Y., on Tuesday at 3pm.
