FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Fairfield University Women's Basketball team will travel to their fifth different state over the first month of the season when they head to New Hampshire to take on Dartmouth on Sunday at 2pm. This will be the first meeting between the two schools since 2004, with the Stags looking to put up their first win in the series.
The Stags are coming off a hard-fought loss to unbeaten Northeastern at Alumni Hall as they fell 59-50 to the Huskies. The Huskies led the entire game and built their largest to 17 midway through the third quarter. The Stags would rally and built a 15-3 run from that point and chipped the deficit to just four points on four occasions in the final quarter.
Khadidiatou Diouf connected on her first career 3-pointer to put the Stags within four for the first time. However, Fairfield could not get the game within one possession and Northeastern connected on seven free throws in the final 40 seconds.
Casey Foley led a trio of Stags in double figures as she finished with a season-high 13 points.
Katie Armstrong poured in 10, with eight coming in the second half.
This will also be the 100th career game for Foley when she takes the floor at Dartmouth. In her four year career, Foley has missed just one contest, which came three games into her freshman season (Nov. 21 vs Sacred Heart). In her 99 career games, Foley has tallied 130 career steals (ranking her one behind Megan Caskin '09 and Baendu Lowenthal '09 for 20th in program history). Her 79 career 3-pointer also places her in a tie for 16th on the program's career list.
Fairfield holds an impressive 33-15 (.688) record against Ivy League opponents in their program history. The only two schools the Stags do not have a win against in the league are Dartmouth and Penn, with both schools holding a 1-0 record against the Stags. Fairfield holds the most wins against Yale (14).
Dartmouth is coming off a 20-point win over Boston University, snapping a four-game losing skid. The Big Green used their size advantage in their win over the Terriers, out-rebounding the visitiors 45-28 and scoring 28 points in the paint. Paula Lenart led the team with her first double-double of the season with 14 points and 10 rebounds.
Senior captain Isalys Quinones leads a Dartmouth team that was selected to finish sixth in the Ivy League Preseason Poll. The senior leads the team in points per game (14.6) and rebounds (7.6). Guards Annie McKenna and Cy Lippold are the playmakers on the squad as the duo has combined for 59 assists (8.4 per game). As a team, Dartmouth has spread the ball around, averaging 14.3 assists per game.
The Stags will turn their attention towards final exams before next taking the court in Las Vegas, Nev., as they take on Furman on Thursday, Dec. 20 at 3pm EST.
