Final Road Test Sends Stags to Quinnipiac on Friday

Fairfield rallied past the Bobcats in five sets last month at Alumni Hall

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The final road match of the 2018 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) slate is also the shortest for Fairfield University Volleyball as the Stags make the short jaunt to Quinnipiac on Friday night. First serve from Burt Kahn Court in Hamden is slated for 7 p.m.

The three-time defending MAAC Champion Stags enter the contest at 10-12 overall and 9-4 in the conference. With one more MAAC win this fall, Fairfield would solidify its 23rd consecutive season with a winning conference record dating back to 1996. Marist owns the second longest active streak with five consecutive winning campaigns (2013-17) in conference play.

Fairfield is coming off of a 3-1 home win over Saint Peter's this past Sunday. The Stags were led by Mayda Garcia's sixth double-double of the campaign (14 kills, 10 digs) as well as 11 kills on .444 hitting from Luci Albertson.

Albertson has been a force during conference play. In 13 MAAC outings, she leads the league with a .400 hitting percentage and is averaging nearly a block per set with 43 rejections in 46 frames against MAAC foes.

Last Meeting vs. Quinnipiac
In the first meeting between the two squads – Sept. 29 at Alumni Hall – the Stags erased an 0-2 deficit to upend the visiting Bobcats in five sets. Albertson led the attack with a career-high 13 kills on .524 hitting, followed by 11 kills from Garcia and nine apiece for Sonja Radulovic and rookies Julia Kallen and Laura Seeger. Alexis Rich doled out a career-best 59 assists, guiding Fairfield to a .274 hitting percentage, and completed a double-double with 10 digs.

Albertson also guided the defensive effort with six blocks, while Taylor Rudeen paced the back row with 23 digs from the libero spot.

Three Bobcats reached double figures in kills, led by Kat Miller's 16 finishers. Morgan Sherwin and Lydia Jones added 15 and 14 kills, respectively. Miller also posted 20 digs from the outside. Maria Pansari piloted the Quinnipiac attack to a .207 hitting percentage with 60 assists.

Up Next
The Stags will play their final four MAAC contests inside the familiar confines of George Bisacca Court at Alumni Hall. Fairfield hosts Siena and Marist next weekend – Nov. 3-4 – and welcomes Niagara and Canisius on the following weekend to conclude the regular season.

All 10 teams will qualify for the 2018 MAAC Championship in Orlando beginning on Nov. 15. The top two teams in the regular season standings will receive a "double bye" to the semifinal round, while the remaining eight squads would need to win four matches in three days to bring home the MAAC Championship Trophy.
