HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. – Fairfield University Volleyball put together a pair of rallies to take the first two sets on Friday evening against Army, then stormed past the Black Knights in the third frame to finish off a 3-0 sweep. The Stags were led by 10 kills apiece from
Emma Bortolotti and
Aislin Oldach and a defensive performance headed by six blocks from
Harlan Wyche and 15 digs for
Katelyn Cook. Fairfield took the match by scores of 27-25, 25-22, and 25-12.
With their third straight win, the Stags improve to 4-3 on the season. Army West Point drops to 6-2; the Black Knights had won six consecutive matches, including four straight sweeps, prior to tonight's match at the Hofstra Invitational.
Bortolotti and Oldach hit .381 and .375, respectively, on their way to 10 kills apiece.
Mia Jean Claude added a career-high eight kills from the left side, and
Mamie Krubally put down seven at a .333 clip swinging from the right. In the middle, Wyche recorded three kills, and
Sophia Nagy had two.
The attack was run to a .282 hitting percentage by the duo of
Noella Migliuri and
Zofia Sykut. Migliuri dished out 17 assists with eight digs, while Sykut handed out 15 assists and contributed seven digs to the defensive effort.
Katelyn Cook donned the libero jersey and finished with a team-leading 15 digs.
Natalie Carlin posted 11 in the DS role, and Jean Claude had a career-high eight digs.
At the net, Wyche got a piece of six of the Stags' eight team blocks. In the process, she eclipsed 200 blocks in her Fairfield career. After tonight's action, Wyche leads the Metro Conference with 1.38 blocks per set after also finishing 2025 as the conference's leading blocker.
In total, the Fairfield defense limited Army to a .126 hitting percentage. The Black Knights were led by nine kills from Kennedy Jones.
Action on Long Island concludes tomorrow at 1 p.m. when the Stags challenge Liberty. The Flames are 5-4 on the season following a 3-0 loss to Army and a 3-2 win over host Hofstra this afternoon.

- Friday's match was the 100th as Fairfield Head Coach for Nancy Somera. Somera is 72-28 at Fairfield. Her .720 winning percentage is the highest all-time among the five Stags' head coaches with at least 100 matches on the Fairfield sidelines.
- Somera's first match with the Stags was also a win over Army West Point.
