Stags Host Siena on Wednesday Night

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Fairfield University Women's Soccer team will play in the middle game of their season-long three match homestand when they welcome the Siena Saints to Lessing Field on Wednesday night at 7pm. The Stags are unbeaten in their first five home matches of the season, tying the 2014 squad for the longest unbeaten home streak during that span.

The Stags fought to their first home draw of the season their last time out as they surrendered an equalizing goal with 31 seconds left against Rider, settling for the 1-1 tie. Liz Dumas was the lone Stag to touch net as she converted a penalty kick opportunity in the 78th minute to give the Stags a 1-0 lead, an advantage that stood until Rider rallied late.

Both sides had opportunities in the match, with the Broncs narrowly out-shooting the Stags 20-18. Brooke Hernon, who was a difference maker out wide during the match, narrowly gave Fairfield an overtime victory, but her shot hit off the crossbar in the first overtime period, keeping the game at 1-1. Rider also held a 7-5 advantage on shots on goal, with Aytana Muschajew picking up six saves. Dumas led the squad with eight shots, three of those on target.

The draw extended Fairfield's home unbeaten streak to five matches to open up the season, their longest since 2014. The 2013 squad were unbeaten in all eight home matches they played that season, as they were in the midst of a 20-game unbeaten streak that lasted from 2012-14.

Siena will bring a 3-6-3 record into Wednesday night's match with their latest win coming eight games ago on Sept. 3 against Cornell. However, Siena has proven they can compete against the top teams in the conference as they handed Quinnipiac and Niagara their only draws of the season, holding both of those squad scoreless. In fact, despite their 0-1-2 MAAC record, the Saints have allowed just one goal in conference play. Goalkeeper Taylor Dorado, a two-time MAAC Second Team honoree, leads the conference with 30 saves (10.00 per game) against MAAC competition.
