Stags to Host Alumni Celebration on Saturday, Herd for a Cure on Sunday

Fairfield challenges Rider and Saint Peter’s this weekend at Alumni Hall

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – A pair of special events will accompany a pivotal Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) weekend for Fairfield University Volleyball with Rider and Saint Peter's set to visit George Bisacca Court at Alumni Hall. The Stags will celebrate the 20th anniversary of their 1998 MAAC Championship on Saturday and host their annual Herd for a Cure event on Sunday. First serve for both contests is slated for 1 p.m.
 
Admission is free for all fans for all Fairfield Volleyball regular season home matches.
 
The Stags enter the weekend at 9-11 overall and 8-3 in the MAAC. Fairfield is currently third in the conference standings tied with Canisius, who the Stags will host in their regular season finale on Sunday, Nov. 11. Iona currently leads the conference at 10-1 followed by Marist at 8-2. Fairfield holds a victory over the Red Foxes and will challenge them again on Sunday, Nov. 3 at Alumni Hall.
 
This weekend's action begins a stretch in which the Stags will play six of their final seven matches at Alumni Hall. All seven remaining regular season outings will be contested in the state of Connecticut, as an Oct. 26 trip to Quinnipiac is the lone road match left on the slate.

As a part of Alumni & Family Weekend, Fairfield Volleyball will celebrate the 20th anniversary of the 1998 MAAC Championship Team – the historic squad that finished the campaign at 35-2 with wins over Alabama, Iowa, Mississippi State and Notre Dame on its résumé. Returning members of that squad and all of the returning MAAC Champions in attendance will be recognized during the match.

Fairfield Volleyball will host its annual Herd for a Cure match as a part of Fairfield Athletics' department-wide initiative. T-shirts and raffle tickets will be sold ($10, cash only) and donations will be collected to support the Norma Pfriem Breast Center. Fans are encouraged to wear pink to promote breast cancer awareness.
