BETHLEHEM, Pa. – A 30th-place finish for
Kaylee Bergen led the way for Fairfield University Women's Cross Country on Friday afternoon at the Paul Short Run. The Stags finished 18th as a team, topping six teams – including two MAAC squads – in their 6K run around Lehigh University's Goodman Campus.
Bergen's 30th-place finish in a field of 198 runners came in a time of 22:21.
Sami Carey was almost in the top half of the individual field at 90th with a mark of 23:26.
Katie Kern (24:17),
Shannon Lavin (24:39) and
Kelsi Farren (25:11) also scored for the Stags with
Anna Valentine (25:22),
Ashley Cambisaca (25:53),
Devyn O'Brien (26:59) and
Tara Cirillo (27:06) rounding out the effort.
The Stags' 18th-place finish slotted them ahead of Rider, Mount St. Mary's, Hartford, St. Joseph's, Niagara and St. Francis Brooklyn. Columbia won the team title with five of the race's top 30 finishers. Siobhan Quinn of Canisius set the individual pace with a winning time of 20:38.
Next weekend, the Stags begin their championship season at Franklin Park in Boston with the New England Championship on Saturday, Oct. 7.
