POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. – Katie Kern and
Sami Carey crossed the finish line in rapid succession to pace Fairfield University Women's Cross Country this morning at the Marist Invitational. The Stags placed third in the meet against a pair of Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) foes.

Kern finished the 5K course on Vassar Farm in 20:42.2 to place 27th in the 55-runner field. Carey was two-tenths of a second behind her at 20:42.4, and
Kelsi Farren was the next harrier to finish at 20:58.0.
Anna Valentine (21:19.1) and
Ashley Cambisaca (21:54.7) rounded out the quintet of scorers for the Stags.
Devyn O'Brien (22:19.9) and
Shannon Lavin (22:32.2) also hit the course this morning in Poughkeepsie.

Marist won the meet on their home course, led by third-place individual finisher Maria Smith's time of 18:15.4. Perennial MAAC favorite Iona was paced by individual champion Dani Martino, who crossed the line in 18:09.6. Non-Division I participants LIU Post and Hunter College filled out the five team field.

This morning's meet was the Fairfield debut for Head Coach
David Scrivines.

Next weekend, Fairfield is back in New York for the Wolfie Invitational hosted by Stony Brook University on Saturday, Sept. 9 at 10:30 a.m.
