BRONX, N.Y. – Led by
Sami Carey with a time of 20:53.4, Fairfield University Women's Cross Country placed eighth on Friday morning at the Br. Doyle Meet of Champions. The Stags aggregated 228 points on the 5K course at Van Cortlandt Park.
Following Carey on the leaderboard for the Stags were
Katie Kern (21:03.7),
Ashley Cambisaca (22:28.0),
Shannon Lavin (22:59.3),
Kelsi Farren (23:21.2) and
Devyn O'Brien (24:02.1).
The field for today's meet featured four regionally-ranked teams. Reigning NCAA Division III National Champion and #1 nationally-ranked Johns Hopkins won the race, led by four of the top seven scoring finishers. Sarah Biehl, running unattached, was the individual champion with a time of 18:15.3 while Iona's Rachel Garn placed second as the top scoring runner with a mark of 18:31.9.
The Stags will be back in action next Saturday, Sept. 23 at Stanley Quarter Park in New Britain for the Ted Owen Invitational hosted by Central Connecticut State.
