FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Fairfield University women's soccer Saturday night match against Manhattan College will have a deeper meaning than just a conference matchup. The program will be selling pink t-shirts with all proceeds benefitting breast cancer research. This match is the first of many events throughout the Fairfield athletics season where the school will raise money and awareness for the Norma Pfriem Breast Center. The match kicks off at 7pm.
IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: Alex Madden scored two goals and
Bre Cocuzzo posted her first career shutout as the Stags won their second-straight match 3-0 at Saint Peter's. It took just four minutes for Madden to net her first goal of the game and put the Stags in front. Fairfield turned in their second goal when
Alana Leahy went down in the box, setting up the first penalty kick of the season for the Stags, which
Kelsey Burke converted. Madden finished her night with a score in the second half, her team-leading sixth goal of the season. Cocuzzo needed five sets in net to record her second-straight win and first career shutout.
MADDEN LEADS THE ROOKIES: With her fifth and sixth goals of the season,
Alex Madden now leads the freshmen in the conference in goals scored. The next closest to Madden's number is the five goals netted by Kelsey Goldring, a redshirted freshman from Quinnipiac. Overall, Madden is tied for fourth in the MAAC with her six scores.
HERD FOR A CURE: The Saturday night match will be the first of several events throughout the athletic season in Fairfield's partnership with the Norma Pfriem Breast Center. All proceeds of the match will go to support the fight against breast cancer. Fans attending the match will have the chance to purchase a $10 pink t-shirt for the cause.
THE JASPERS SCOUTING REPORT: One of the top scoring teams in the conference, Manhattan has won five of their last six MAAC matches, scoring 19 goals over that stretch. Erica Modena has led the offensive output with seven goals and four assists while Arianna Montefusco ranks second on the squad with five scores. Manhattan is very deep as a team with 13 different players registering at least one goal. Kelly DiGregorio has made 12 starts in net and holds a 0.95 GAA and a .804 save percentage.
UP NEXT: The Stags will travel to West Long Branch, N.J., for their final road match of the season when they take on the reigning conference champions Monmouth on Wednesday at 7pm.
