Women's Tennis Starts Weekend Slate at Marist

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Fairfield University women's tennis team will continue MAAC play with a match at Marist on Friday at 2:00 pm. The team will also travel to Monmouth on Sunday for a 2:30 pm match, and then play their third match in four days at Sacred Heart on Monday at 3:00 pm.

Last time out, the Stags were stopped by Hofstra 6-1 on March 23. The team did not earn a win in doubles action. Nicole Aragones and Courtney Connors paired up at the first position dropping a 6-1 decision. Gabriella Campos and Cecilia Parla fell 6-3 at the second spot. And Meghan Zimmer and Meghan Ziegler competed at No. 3 falling 6-0.

In singles play, Ziegler earned her first career win at the No. 6 spot in three sets over Ria Shah. Fairfield's remaining five spots all dropped in straight sets. 

Marist is 5-10 this season including a perfect 4-0 record in conference play this season. On April 3, the Red Foxes bested Monmouth 7-0. Marist swept the doubles action with wins at all three positions, headlined by Karlene Pang and Chloe Lant at No.1. In singles play, Pang also picked up a win at the No. 1 spot, 6-3, 6-4.

Monmouth is 1-3 in the MAAC and will face Siena on Saturday before hosting the Stags on Sunday. The Hawks last match was at Wagner, falling 4-3 on April 6. Monmouth was swept in doubles action, but split the singles matches for three points against the Seahawks. Alexandra Graff grabbed a win at No. 2, Chioma Gabriel earned a win at No. 3, and Kendal Kaiffman claimed the victory at No. 4.

Sacred Heart is currently 7-7 this season and will play at Wagner on Friday before hosting Fairfield on Monday. The Pioneers have won two in a row and most recently defeated Rhode Island 6-1 on March 31. Sacred Heart swept the doubles point and then lost just one singles match on the day, at the No. 2 spot. Senior Katie DeRienzo plays at No. 1 singles and has racked up a team-high 11 wins this season for the Pioneers.

After the weekend, the Stags will head to Siena on Saturday April 16.
