Tennis to Play a Pair of Conference Matches this Weekend

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Fairfield University tennis teams will travel to Siena on Saturday at noon  before returning home on Sunday  to welcome Saint Peter's to the Walsh Athletic Center Tennis Courts at 1:00 pm.

This past week, the women's team fell to Sacred Heart 7-0 on Monday. The men competed at Marist on Thursday, dropping 6-1.

Against Sacred Heart, the women grabbed one win in doubles play. The No. 3 duo of Gabriella Campos and Meghan Ziegler picked up a 6-3 victory, while the first and second spots fell 6-2 and 6-1 respectively.

In singles action, all six matches went just two sets. Nicole Aragones fell 6-1, 6-0 at No. 1.Karen McKeough played at the second spot falling 6-2, 6-0. Campos at third dropped 6-0, 6-1. In the remaining three spots, Courtney Connors lost 6-3, 6-2, Cecilia Parla lost 6-1, 6-0, and Ziegler lost 6-2, 6-3.

Against Marist, the men earned the doubles point with wins at the No.1 and No. 2 spots. Brad Orban and Ofir Solomon earned the 6-2 victory at the first spot, while Jeffrey Rodgers and Anthony Caputo grabbed a 6-3 win at the second spot. In singles action, Fairfield was unable to come away with a single victory.

Siena's men's team is 0-4 in the MAAC and is coming off losses to Monmouth and Marist last weekend. The women's team finds themselves at 3-1 in conference play. Their latest conference win came over Monmouth, 6-1 on April 9. The Saints swept doubles action, grabbing all three wins. Then in singles action, they claimed wins at Nos. 2-5 to top the Hawks.

Saint Peter's men's team is 1-2 in the MAAC and coming off a 4-3 win over Niagara on April 10. The Peacocks dropped the doubles point, but were able to grab the victory over the Purple Eagles with wins from the first, fourth, fifth, and sixth positions. Freshman Gabe Russotto clinched the victory with his singles win at No. 5. The women's team sits at 1-3 in conference action after falling to Niagara 7-0 last time out.

Both teams will finish off their regular season with Quinnipiac. The women will host the Bobcats on Tuesday, while the men welcome the Bobcats on Thursday to the Walsh Athletic Center Tennis Courts.
