Stags Stopped by Rider, 4-2, in MAAC Tournament First Round

Aguiar and Benaibbouche earn singles wins

PRINCETON, N.J. – Fairfield University Men's Tennis concluded the 2024-25 season on Friday morning with a 4-2 loss to Rider in the First Round of the MAAC Championship. Alex Aguiar and Luca Benaibbouche earned singles wins for the Stags in the setback.
 
With the loss, the third-seeded Stags end the season at 9-9. Rider – the sixth-seeded club in the bracket – improves to 10-13.
 
Fairfield got off on the right foot as the All-MAAC doubles team of Aguiar and Sam Hodges nabbed a 6-2 win in the top flight. However, the Broncs picked up 6-4 decisions at both #2 and #3 to take the doubles point.
 
Benaibbouche leveled the match at 1-1 with a 6-3, 6-4 victory at #4 singles, before Rider pushed the margin to 3-1 with wins at #3 and #1. Aguiar kept the Stags alive with a 6-2, 5-7, 6-2 triumph at #6 but the Broncs finished off the match with a three-set win at #2.
 
Domagoj Stabek saw his match at #5 singles go unfinished in a third frame after Rider clinched the team win.
