Fairfield's 3-1 win over Siena on Saturday extended the nation's longest active winning streak to 21 matches. The current run ties the second-longest streak in program history set during the 2000 season. The program record is a 27-match run by Todd Kress' 1998 squad en route to the MAAC Championship. That team finished the year with the best winning percentage in the nation at 35-2 (.946) and had a final RPI of 24. The Stags are also in the midst of a 30-match winning streak against MAAC opponents (postseason meetings included).
After Saturday's victory, Fairfield is only team to have recorded a victory at both the 2015 and 2016 MAAC Championships. The Stags have qualified for 21 consecutive MAAC postseasons and have won at least one match in each of their last nine appearances in the tournament.
The winner of the 2016 MAAC Championship will earn an automatic bid to the 2016 NCAA Championship. The 64-team field will be announced next Sunday, Nov. 27 at 9 p.m. on ESPNU.
Fairfield also has one more regular season match on the slate. The Stags are set to visit Sacred Heart on Monday, Nov. 28 at 6 p.m. across town at the Pitt Center. The Pioneers also have national postseason aspirations, as they will meet LIU Brooklyn this Sunday in the NEC Championship Match.
