FAIRFIELD, Conn. –Nearly 200 area youths will crowd Lessing Field and will be cheering for the Stags. The Fairfield University Women's Soccer program will host the inaugural Kids' Day Out contest and welcome three area elementary schools for the Wednesday afternoon contest against Saint Peter's starting at 11am. Before the game, the kids will have an opportunity to explore the campus on tours with several student-athletes and also have the chance for an autograph session with the team at the end of the match. As for the Stags, they will look to build on their first MAAC win of the season and try to extend their unbeaten streak against the Peacocks to 26 games.
IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: Fairfield recorded their first MAAC win of the season and did so by shutting out the Iona Gaels on the road in picking up the 1-0 victory. For the second-straight contest Melanie Hingher scored the lone goal for the Stags and also helped guide a defensive line that limited the Gaels to two shots on goal. Sophomore Megan DeFeo kept the one goal lead in tact as the goalkeeper picked up her first career win and shutout in her first start of her collegiate campaign. DeFeo recorded two saves and has tallied a 1.06 goals against average this season.
HER BEST WEEK YET: Freshman Melanie Hingher is coming off the best week to her collegiate career as she scored her first two career goals in back-to-back games. Hingher's highlight was notching the eventual game-winning goal against Iona, heading in a first half tally. Hingher also was part of a defensive backline that limited the Gaels to two shots on goal in the eventual shutout win.
FAIRFIELD VS SAINT PETER'S: The Stags have never lost to the Peacocks, entering the contest with a 24-0-1 all-time record with the lone draw coming in the 1995 MAAC Tournament, a contest the Stags would win on penalty kicks. The Stags have posted four-straight shutouts in the series, outscoring the Peacocks 19-0 over that span. Jenny Jacobs notched three goals in her first meeting in the series with Elena Santos chipping in two. Cassidy Boegel, Molly Moran, Pamela Coufos, and Sydney Arestivo have all tallied at least one goal in the series.
THE PEACOCKS SCOUTING REPORT: The Peacocks enter the game on a five-game losing streak, all of those coming in the shutout fashion. Saint Peter's tied a season-low with two shots against Monmouth while allowing seven first half goals in the contest. Senior Genesis Castrellon has tied her career-high with two goals scored this season, accounting for two-thirds of the team's scores in 2016.
