Women's Tennis Falls to Niagara in MAAC Semifinal

WEST WINDSOR, N.J. -- The third-seeded Fairfield University women's tennis team fell, 4-0, to second-seeded Niagara University in the 2015 MAAC Tournament semifinal match at Mercer County Park this morning.

The match began with Fairfield duo Sarah Stuhlmann and Nicole Aragones falling to Niagara's Brooke Briseno and Stella Peisakhova, 8-3. In the No. 1 spot, Allison Radde and Helen Abbot were edged by the Purple Eagles' Maria Ortiz and Paulina Velasquez, 8-2. At No. 3 doubles, Karen McKeough and Meghan Zimmer were at a count of 5-6 with Iva Celan and Ashley Ta but the match remained unfinished.

Niagara (11-7; 7-1 MAAC) went on to post victories at No. 4-6 singles after capturing the doubles point. In the No. 5 spot, Kaila Nelson dropped 6-3, 6-0, to Ortiz while McKeough fell, 6-1, 6-1, to Briseno at No. 6 singles. Niagara clinched the match when Peisakhova defeated Abbot, 6-0, 6-1, in the No. 4 spot. The competitions at No. 1-3 singles remained unfinished.

Fairfield finished the 2014-15 campaign with a 7-8 overall record and a 6-2 mark in conference play. This year, three Stags earned MAAC All-Academic honors.
