FAIRFIELD, Conn. -- The Fairfield University women's tennis team fell to cross-town foe Sacred Heart, 4-3, on Monday afternoon at the Walsh Athletic Center Tennis Courts.
The Stags won the doubles point and posted singles victories in the No. 3 and No. 6 spots.
At No. 1 doubles, Allison Radde and Helen Abbot defeated Sacred Heart's Lindsey Post and Paige Olson, 8-7, while the Fairfield duo of Karen McKeough and Meghan Zimmer edged the Pioneers' Emma Pezzullo and Claudia Ruiz, 8-5, in the No. 3 slot. At No. 2 doubles, Sarah Stuhlmann and Kaila Nelson fell, 8-4, to Katie DeRienzo and Taylor Gurda.
At No. 1 singles, Radde fell to DeRienzo, 7-6, 6-0, while freshman Stuhlmann was clipped by Sacred Heart's Olson, 6-2, 6-3, in the No. 2 slot. At No. 3 singles was classmate Nicole Aragones who edged Nicole Rydzewski by a count of 7-6, 6-4. Nelson fell, 6-1, 6-1, to Post at No. 4 singles while Zimmer was clipped 6-2, 6-2, at No. 5. Rounding out play for Fairfield was McKeough, who topped Pezzullo, 6-2, 1-6, 6-2, in the No. 6 slot.
Fairfield (5-7; 4-2 MAAC) will be back in action on Wednesday, April 15 when the Stags travel to Riverdale, N.Y. to take on conference foe Manhattan at 3:00p.m.
