BOSTON – The Fairfield University women's cross country team returned to action today at the NCAA Division I Northeast Region Championship hosted by Boston College. The Stags were led by Kathleen Woods along the 6K course at Franklin Park.
Woods finished with a time of 23:27.7 to pace the seven Stags in the race. She was followed by Jacqueline-Ann Willsey (24:08.6) and Sami Carey (24:22.7) as Fairfield's top three performers.
Rounding out the competitors for the Stags were Sarah Morrissette (24:39.0), Allison Campbell (24:40.2), Julia Wood (24:48.5) and Stef Vickers (25:02.0).
The Stags placed 34th as a team in the meeting of the region's top programs. Among the squads defeated by Fairfield was MAAC foe Niagara in addition to teams representing the Patriot League, America East and Atlantic-10.
Providence College won the team crown, led by second-place finisher Sarah Collins. The Friars' top five harriers were all among the first 17 to cross the finish line.
The individual title went to Dana Giordano, who set the pace with a time of 20:25.7 to lead Dartmouth to an eighth-place team showing.
Fairfield wraps up its 2015 season next Saturday, Nov. 21, at the ECAC Championship at Van Cortlandt Park in the Bronx, N.Y.
