MAAC Play Begins with 6-1 Triumph over Rider

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Fairfield University women's tennis team began Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference play with a 6-1 win over visiting Rider. Playing their first dual match of the fall, the Stags swept the doubles point from the Broncs, and five singles players all won in straight sets.

The Stags took an early advantage with three doubles wins courtesy of the duos of Sarah Stuhlmann and Nicole Aragones, Meghan Zimmer and Karen McKeough and Courtney Connors and Cecilia Parla.

Stuhlmann and Aragones were also victorious in the top two singles spots. At No. 3 singles, Karen McKeough was outlasted in three sets after staving off elimination with a 6-2 victory in the second set.

Zimmer, Connors and Campos also all logged singles wins to complete the conference triumph.

Today's contest marked the only MAAC match on the Stags' fall slate. Fairfield continues dual match action tomorrow when Providence comes to the Walsh Athletic Center Courts for a 3 p.m. outing.
