PENNINGTON, N.J. – Kathleen Woods turned in a 25th-place time of 22:28.70 to lead the Fairfield University women's cross country team to ninth place at the 2015 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Championship on Saturday at Rosedale Park. The Stags also placed five student-athletes on the MAAC All-Academic Team.
Following Woods on the 6K course were Jacqueline-Ann Willsey in 44th (22:55.83) and Allison Campbell in 55th place (23:30.74). Stef Vickers (23:38.18) and Sarah Morrissette (24:10.65) rounded out the quintet of scorers for the Stags.
Fairfield's boasted four finishers among the top half of the 159-harrier field.
Morrissette, Vickers, Woods, Sami Carey and Shannon Lavin also earned MAAC All-Academic Team honors for their performance in the classroom.
Quinnipiac edged perennial frontrunner Iona to win the MAAC Championship. The Bobcats were paced by second-place finisher Niamh Ashe (21:16.74) and placed all five of its scoring runners in the top 20. The Gaels, who finished second as a team following a run of 10 consecutive titles, were led by individual champion Tara Jameson. Jameson beat the field by more than seven seconds with a time of 21:09.09.
