Stags Compete at USTA/ITA Northeast Regional Championships

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Fairfield University men's and women's tennis teams rounded out their fall schedules this weekend at the USTA/ITA Northeast Regional Championships. A total of six Stags took the court against the top Division I student-athletes in the region.

The men's tennis team sent four student-athletes to Yale for the men's championship. Action began on Thursday, where Ofir Solomon and Jeffrey Rodgers were both clipped in the qualifying stages. Solomon fell to Timothy Wang of Columbia, who won five singles matches at the event to surge from the qualifying draw to the Round of 16 in the main draw. Rodgers was bested by the University of Connecticut's Chris Toner.

In the main singles draw, Brad Orban was edged in the first round by Maverick Lin of Cornell in a three-set outing.

In the doubles draw, Rodgers and Orban were topped by Binghamton's tandem of Eliott Hureau and Ludovico Cestarollo. Solomon partnered with Anthony Caputo and fell to Yale's Dennis Wang and Martin Svenning – a duo that would advance one step further to the Round of 16.

Two members of the women's tennis team were in action in New Hampshire this weekend. Sarah Stuhlmann took the court in the singles draw at Dartmouth College and fell to Harvard's Nikki Kallenberg, who went on to reach the Round of 16.

Stuhlmann paired with Nicole Aragones in doubles, dropping a match to Penn's duo of Lina Qostal and Ojasvinee Singh.

Fairfield men's tennis went 2-0 in the dual matches during the fall slate, besting Hartford and MAAC opponent Rider in the only conference match of the fall. The Fairfield women's team will enter the spring at 1-2 overall and 1-0 in the MAAC after also defeating the Broncs.
