FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Fairfield University women's tennis team opened their 2014 fall season on September 6 at the Sacred Heart Doubles Festival. The Stags competed against pairs from Bryant, Quinnipiac, Wesleyan, Hartford, and host Pioneers.
In Flight 1, the Fairfield pair of Allison Radde and Kaila Nelson fell to Sacred Heart duo Rydzewski/DeRienzo, 6-2, Quinnipiac pair Dzulynsky/Young, 6-1, Wesleyan duo Klass-Warch/Chong, 6-1, and Bryant pair, Boullin/Brown, 6-3.
In Flight 2, Stags duo Karen McKeough and rookie Sarah Stuhlmann defeated Hartford pair Makings/Sneddon, 6-1, and Sacred Heart duo Olson/Post, 6-2, and fell to Wesleyan's Dubinsky/Budhiraja, 6-2, and Quinnipiac's Dassa/Raynor, 6-2.
The freshmen shined in Flight 3, as Helen Abbot and Erika Nannery teamed up to defeat Sacred Heart pair Gurda/Ruiz, 6-2. Nannery then partnered with classmate Meghan Zimmer to edge Quinnipiac's Rencheli/Launie, 7-6(4). Stag duo Abbot and Zimmer battled but ultimately fell to Wesleyan duo McCann/Lindholm-Uzzi, 7-6(4).
In Flight 4, the Fairfield pair of Emma Samson and Stephanie Ziegler downed Hartford pair Lee/Sabino, 6-2. Newcomer Renee Nouri, with partner Samson, was edged by Bryant's Ammendola/Arroyo, 6-3, before teaming up with Ziegler to edge Quinnipiac's Keklik/Reyes, 7-5.
The Fairfield women's tennis team will take action on the road. The Stags will head to Lawrenceville, N.J. on September 16 to open Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) play against Rider University at 2pm.
