Men?s Tennis Opens 2014-15 Season on Saturday

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Fairfield University men's tennis team will open its 2014-15 campaign at home at the Fairfield Doubles Tournament on Saturday, September 6. The Stags will host Hartford and Wesleyan at the Walsh Athletic Center Tennis Courts. The first serve is set for 9am.

In the last four years, the Stags have opened their 2010 and 2012 fall campaigns by hosting a Fairfield Doubles Festival. At the 2012 Fairfield Doubles Festival, the Stags hosted Sacred Heart, University of Connecticut, and Hartford. In Flight 1, Cameron Amyot picked up an 8-3 win over Hartford, an 8-4 victory over Connecticut, and an 8-2 win over Sacred Heart, to clinch a share of the tournament title. Also sharing the title in Flight 1 was Ofir Solomon who went 3-0 by defeating pairs from all three visiting schools.

Fairfield returns six Stags from last year's squad which went 10-10 overall and 4-3 in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) play. That group includes seniors Amyot and George Tioutine, juniors Tyler Parks and Solomon, and sophomores Peter Colliard and Gabriel Pamich. Fairfield welcomes four newcomers to the roster this year.

Construction on the Rafferty Stadium Project is in full swing. Due to the construction, the Walsh Athletic Center Parking Lot is closed. On game days, fans are asked to utilize the parking lots at Fairfield Prep, the rear of Alumni Hall, or Jogues Hall. Limited parking is available Dolan Commons and the Kelley Center East lots.

After the Fairfield Doubles Tournament, the team will open conference play on the road. The Stags will take on Rider University in Lawrenceville, N.J. on September 16 at 2pm.
