PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – The Fairfield University women's tennis team finished their final day of competition at the Saint Joseph's University Invitational on September 28. Fairfield's Karen McKeough/Meghan Zimmer were the standout duo for the Stags, battling back to win the doubles Flight 2 Consolation bracket.
In the consolation bracket of Flight 1 doubles, Nicole Aragones/Sarah Stuhlmann fell to Drexel's Erin Bowsher/Lea Winkler, 9-8(10), in the final round after defeating Sacred Heart's Katie DeRienzo/Lindsey Post, 9-8(5), yesterday in the semifinals.
In the consolation bracket of Flight 2 doubles, Stags duo McKeough/Zimmer advanced to the semifinal round after defeating LaSalle's Celesta Smith/Jada Smith, 8-3, yesterday in the quarterfinals. The pair went on to down host Hawks' Maureen Devlin/Robyn Ferraro, 8-2, to advance to the finals where they edged Loyola's Julie Clark/Ania Krawiec, 8-5, to clinch the bracket title.
In the consolation bracket of Flight 1 singles, Allison Radde fell to Villanova's Samantha Schafer, 6-4, 2-6, 10-5, in the quarterfinals while Stuhlmann was defeated, 6-2, 6-0, by Delaware's Danea Jonjic in the semifinals.
In the consolation bracket of Flight 2 singles, Emma Samson was edged, 6-2, 6-0, by Villanova's Linley Busby in the round of 16.
In the consolation bracket of Flight 3 singles, Zimmer defeated Sacred Heart's Sabrina Navarro Lopez, 6-3, 6-2, while McKeough fell to Loyola's Amanda Lanciano, 6-1, 6-3, in the round of 16. The bracket remained unfinished.
In the consolation bracket of Flight 4 singles, Renee Nouri downed Sacred Heart's Haley Dubits, 6-0, 6-1, while Stephanie Ziegler clipped the Pioneers' Kelly Sullivan, 6-2, 4-6, 10-8, in the round of 16.
The Fairfield women's tennis team will be back in action on October 3, when the Stags head to cross-town foe Sacred Heart for a scrimmage at 3pm.
