FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Three Stags from the Fairfield University field hockey team will compete in prestigious USA Field Hockey Championships this week. Rising juniors Emily McCauley and Kaitlyn Taddeo were chosen for the 2014 Under 21 Women's National Championship while rising sophomore Ann Burgoyne was selected for the 2014 Women's National Championship.
McCauley, Taddeo, and Burgoyne are the first Stags in program history to be chosen for the Championships.
The 2014 Women's National Championship will be held June 15-21 while the 2014 U21 Women's National Championship will be held June 21-25. Both events will be held at Spooky Nook Sports in Lancaster, Pa.
McCauley started in all 18 games during the 2013 campaign. She netted three goals with two assists for a total eight points.
Taddeo appeared in all 18 games last season and started in two. She tallied three goals with one assist for a total seven points. She also scored the game-winning goal for the Stags against Lehigh on August 30.
Burgoyne saw action in 16 of 18 games in her freshman campaign, starting in six. She netted five goals with two assists for a total 12 points. Burgoyne scored two game-winning goals for the Stags against La Salle on September 15 and Monmouth on September 27.
Fairfield will open the 2014 campaign on the west coast as the Stags take on California and UC-Davis on August 29 and August 31.
