Women's Golf Finishes Fifth at Wagner Spring Invitational

GETTYSBURG, Pa. – The Fairfield University women's golf team finished fifth overall at the Wagner Spring Seahawk Invitational. The Stags shot a collective 355 in the second round, on the par 72 Quail Valley Golf Course.

Michelle Applegate shaved 11 strokes off her first round score to become Fairfield's top-finisher. Applegate finished tied for sixth overall with a score of 167 (89-78).

Sophomore Sara Quinn carded a 94 on the day, finishing tied for 16th overall with a final score of 176. Jackie Schofield took five strokes off her first round score, carding an 88. Schofield finished 27th overall with a score of 181.

Kate Heffernan (88-95) finished with a score of 183, placing her in 29th overall while Chelsea Donovan carded a 104 for the round, pushing her total score to 214.

St. Francis (Pa.) shot a 334 in the second round to capture the Wagner Spring Seahawk Invitational with a final score of 662. Fairleigh Dickinson was the runner-up with a score of 678 while the host Seahawks were a close third with a 682. Robert Morris finished third, with a score 11 strokes ahead of the Stags who tallied a fifth place score of 707. Rounding out the tournament was Monmouth who placed sixth (722) and Niagara who followed in seventh (744).

Fairfield returns to action on April 13 when the Stags travel to Annapolis, Md. to compete in the Navy Spring Classic.
