Michelle Applegate Takes Fourth at DSU Spring Invitational

DOVER, Del. - The Fairfield University women's golf team finished play at the Delaware State Spring Invitational at the Maple Dale Country Club. Sophomore Michelle Applegate placed fourth overall while the team finished in fifth. 

Applegate took four strokes off her first round score, shooting an 80 on Sunday afternoon. She finished with a combined score of 164 in the 36-hole event.

Junior Kate Heffernan finished with an overall score of 183 (90-93) to finish 18th overall while rookie Jackie Schofield followed finishing tied for 19th with a final score of 184. Schofield took six strokes off her first round score, shooting an 86 on Sunday. 

Rounding out play for the Stags was Chelsea Donovan who posted a 199 (96-103) score to finish 29th overall. 

Towson (652) edged Hartford (682) for the top spot in the tournament. Quinnipiac (688) finished third and was followed by Delaware State (723) and Fairfield (729). Towson's Emma Hjarne took the individual title, shooting a 71 (-2) to finish with a combined score of 153.

Fairfield will spend the next two days at the Wagner Spring Invitational in Gettysburg, Pa.
