SCHENECTADY, N.Y. – The Fairfield University men's tennis team snapped a four-match skid with an impressive 7-0 victory over Siena College this afternoon. With the win, the Stags improve to 9-7 on the season and 3-3 in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) play.
Fairfield snatched the doubles points to get the day started. Ian Tesmond and Cameron Amyot teamed up to defeat Ryan Schmitz and Peter Collins, 8-4, at No. 1 doubles. At the second spot, Ofir Solomon and Dennis Zlobinsky posted an 8-3 win over Eric Sumanaru and Alex Burbine. Siena's lone win of the day came at No. 3 doubles as Matthew Funicello and Joseph Holm knocked off Reece Breault and Bjorn Merinder, 8-1.
The Stags made quick work of the Saints in singles play. At No. 1 singles, Solomon downed Schmitz, 6-1, 6-1. Tesmond posted a 6-0, 6-1 win over Collins at No. 2 singles while Zlobinsky posted the 6-2, 6-1 win over Burbine at No. 3 singles.
At No 4 singles, Sumanaru took Amyot to a super tiebreaker, but the Stag pulled out the 6-2, 4-6, 10-8 win. Peter Colliard topped Funicello, 6-2, 6-0, at the fifth spot while Merinder forged a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Holm.
Fairfield returns to action on April 15 at Sacred Heart.
