WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. -- The Fairfield University men's tennis team fell to conference foe Monmouth, 6-1, yesterday evening at the Outdoor Tennis Complex. Sophomore Ofir Solomon scored the lone point for the Stags.
Fairfield's point of the day came at No. 2 singles where Solomon edged the Hawks' Przemyslaw Filipek, 6-1, 7-5.
In doubles play, Fairfield duo Solomon and Bjorn Merinder were edged by Monmouth's duo Freddy Marcinkowski and Ramy Bekhiet, 8-6. At the No. 3 spot, Cameron Amyot and Peter Colliard fell, 8-0, to Filipek and Bee Kumthonkittikul. At No. 1 doubles, Stags pair Ian Tesmond and Dennis Zlobinsky was leading the Hawks' Victor Pugliese and Christian Vieira, 7-5, before the match was called.
At No. 1 singles, Tesmond fell to Monmouth's Pugliese, 6-2, 6-3. In the No. 3 spot, Zlobinsky was edged by Kumthonkittikul, 7-5, 6-0. Amyot battled but ultimately fell, 6-1, 6-7, 10-1, to Marcinkowski in the No. 4 spot. Colliard was clipped by Monmouth's Luke Adamus, 6-3, 6-2, at No. 5 singles while Merinder fell, 6-1, 6-1, to the Hawks' Vieira in the No. 6 spot.
Fairfield (8-7) is scheduled to take MAAC action on the road. The Stags will stop at Siena on April 12 before heading across town to face Sacred Heart on April 15.
