Big Weekend Ahead for Men?s Tennis

FAIRFIELD, Conn. - The Fairfield University men's tennis team will host Villanova on Saturday, March 29 before hosting Army on Sunday, March 30 at the Walsh Athletic Center Tennis Courts. Saturday's match is set for noon while Sunday's first serve is set for 2:30pm.

Fairfield vs. Villanova: Saturday's match will be the first dual the Stags and the Wildcats have played against one another since last year's match on April 11. In that contest, Fairfield fell to Villanova, 4-3, in Villanova, Pa. Dennis Zlobinsky defeated Max Levine, 7-5, 6-7(5), 10-6, in the No. 4 spot while Ofir Solomon downed the Wildcats' Mike Rosengren, 6-2, 7-5, in the No. 5 spot.

Fairfield vs. Army: Sunday's match will be the first dual the Stags and the Black Knights have played against one another since last year's match on February 22. In that contest, Fairfield fell to Army, 5-2, in West Point, N.Y. At No. 5 singles, Solomon defeated Henry Jang-Milsten, 6-2, 6-3.

A Look at the Wildcats: Villanova is 1-12 on the season. The Wildcats have posted a victory over La Salle. In their fall season, Villanova competed in three tournaments including the Villanova Invitational, Saint Joseph's Invitational, and the Quinnipiac Invitational. The Wildcats are coming off a 6-1 victory over La Salle on March 23.  

A Look at the Black Knights: Army is 11-4 on the season. The Black Knights have fallen to Binghamton, Air Force, UC Irvine, and Loyola Marymount. In their fall season, Army competed in seven tournaments including the St. Joseph's Invitational, Yale Invitational, ITA Men's All-American Championships, West Point Fall Quad, ITA Regionals, Patriot League Kickoff 2013, and the Harvard Halloween Invite. The Black Knights will be tested at Sacred Heart on March 28 before competing against the Stags.

Last Time Out: The Stags defeated the Quinnipiac Bobcats, 6-1, on March 20 at the Walsh Athletic Center Tennis Courts in Fairfield, Conn. After winning the doubles point, Fairfield continued the streak into singles play. Quinnipiac's lone point of the day came at No. 2 singles where George Tioutine was edged by Eric Ambrosio, 5-7, 6-2, 10-7.  

Looking Ahead: Fairfield (8-3) will take action on the road. The Stags will stop at Marist on April 2 before traveling to Niagara on April 5.
