Women's Lacrosse Heads to Sacred Heart on Wednesday

The Fairfield University women's lacrosse team will make the short trip across town to face Sacred Heart University on March 26 at 3pm.

Fairfield (4-3) vs. Sacred Heart (2-5): The Stags are 8-0 all-time against the Pioneers since 1998. Last season, Melanie Raso had a game-high six points to lead Fairfield to an 18-3 win over visiting Sacred Heart. Fairfield never trailed in the game as Jenna Slowey netted the opening goal of the game 49 seconds into the contest. 

Scouting the Pioneers: Sacred Heart split last week's games and is coming off a 15-8 loss to Monmouth. Senior midfielder Shelby Vaccaro was named the Northeast Conference Women's Lacrosse Offensive Player of the Week on Monday after posting 14 points in two games last week. She struck for 11 goals and three assists. Vaccaro is the Pioneers' leading scorer this season with 20 goals. Caitlin Delaney and Jessalyn Joseph are next with nine goals apiece.

Last Time Out: Fairfield was last in action on March 22 when they were edged by 8-7. Melanie Raso and Riley Hellstein scored two goals apiece for the Stags, who also received goals from Courtney Chmil,Jenna Slowey, and Colleen Reynolds.

She's in Control: Senior Melanie Raso is six draw controls away from setting the new career standard at Fairfield. Raso enters the week with 136 career draw controls and is approaching the program record of 141 set by Chloe Mangan last season. Raso is also in the Stags' career top-10 in points (137) and goals (107). She also has eight game-winning goals during her career, two away from tying the program record.

Looking Ahead: The Stags will open Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) play on Saturday, March 29 when Niagara University visits Alumni Field at 12pm.
