LAWRENCEVILLE, N.J. – After a 4-4 first quarter on Wednesday afternoon at Rider, Fairfield University Women's Lacrosse hung a half dozen goals and kept the host Broncs off the board in the second frame en route to a decisive 18-9 win.
Kelly Haggerty scored five goals and
Mary Henry posted four goals and one assist in the MAAC road triumph.
With their fifth straight win, the Stags improve to 9-3 overall and 4-0 in the MAAC. Fairfield and Mount St. Mary's are currently tied atop the league standings at 4-0, with 3-0 Niagara currently in action at Canisius.
Rider falls to 1-12 on the season with an 0-4 conference tally.
Haggerty's five goals marked a season high and extended her team lead to 28 tallies on the season. Henry's five-point day was also a season high as the senior potted four goals with an assist in her second game back following a month-long layoff due to injury.
Haley Burns added two goals and an assist as a part of a monster two-way day for the midfielder. Burns also had four caused turnovers, four ground balls, and three draw controls to keep the Stags on the attack.
Paige Gardner and
Lizzie Getz each netted a pair of goals,
Tessa Caputo scored a goal and dished out her team-leading 24th assist, with
Katie Bergen and
Sara MacLeod each adding one goal.
Kit Zanelli and
Charlotte Loughlin had one assist apiece to round out the scoring as 10 Stags contributed to Fairfield's season-high 18 goals.
Fairfield maintained possession with a 21-9 advantage on the draw.
Brynn Donnelly hauled in seven draw controls from the dot, and
Sophia Colasacco collected six working outside the circle.
Whitney Robinson and
Keira Furey split duties in the cage and finished with four and two saves, respectively. Fairfield has conceded no more than nine goals during its five game winning streak, averaging just 6.80 goals per game allowed during that span.
Rider was led by three goals and two assists by Madi Eollo. Jamie Kubach made 10 saves for the Broncs.
Up next, the Stags host Manhattan on Saturday, April 4 at noon. The Jaspers are 2-11 overall and 1-3 in MAAC contests following a 9-8 loss to Sacred Heart this afternoon.
