Men?s Tennis Defeats MAAC Foe Quinnipiac, 6-1

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Fairfield University men's tennis team opened play at the Walsh Athletic Center Tennis Courts with a 6-1 victory over Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) opponent Quinnipiac University. Fairfield only gave up one point on the day, lifting the Stags to a 2-0 conference record.

The Stags opened the afternoon by winning the doubles point. At the No. 1 spot, Ian Tesmond and Cameron Amyot defeated Quinnipiac's Eric Ambrosio and Luke Roser, 8-2. At No. 2 doubles, George Tioutine and Dennis Zlobinsky were edged by the Bobcats' Kei Ezaka and Ryoma Haraguchi, 8-5. The Stags clinched the doubles point when Ofir Solomon and Bjorn Merinder defeated Carlos Fernandez and Alain Grullon, 8-5, in the No. 3 spot.
 
Fairfield continued their streak into singles play. Tesmond set the tone with a, 6-4, 6-2, win over Ezaka at No. 1 singles. At the No. 3 spot, Solomon downed Roser, 6-4, 6-4. Zlobinsky then defeated Haraguchi, 6-3, 6-2, at No. 4 singles while Amyot edged Fernandez, 6-3, 6-3, in the No. 5 spot. Rounding out singles play for the Stags, was Merinder who downed Quinnipiac's Grullon, 6-1, 6-3, in the No. 6 spot.
 
The lone point for Quinnipiac came at No. 2 singles, where Tioutine battled but ultimate fell to Ambrosio, 5-7, 6-2, 10-7.
 
Fairfield (8-3) will continue action at home. The Stags will host Villanova on March 29 before hosting Army on March 30.
