Men's Tennis Opens Spring MAAC Play on Thursday

​FAIRFIELD, Conn. - The Fairfield University men's tennis team will open spring Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) competition when the Stags host Quinnipiac University on Thursday, March 20 at the Walsh Athletic Center Tennis Courts. The first serve is set for 3pm.
 
Fairfield (7-3) vs. Quinnipiac: Thursday's match will be the first dual the Stags and the Bobcats have played against one another since last year's match on March 28. In that contest, Fairfield fell to Quinnipiac, 5-2, in Hamden, Conn. Fairfield and Quinnipiac have already met this season at the Quinnipiac Invitational on October 4-6 and the Connecticut State Championships on October 25-27. At the Quinnipiac Invitational, Peter Colliard fell to the Bobcats' Eric Ambrosio, 6-0, 6-3. At the Connecticut State Championships, Cameron Amyot defeated Ben Teicher, 6-3, 6-2, while Ian Tesmond defeated Luke Roser, 6-0, 6-3. Colliard defeated Alain Grullon, 5-6, 6-2, 1-0, before teaming up with Bjorn Merinder to defeat Roser/Ryoma Haraguchi, 8-4. Fairfield duo Ofir Solomon/Dennis Zlobinsky defeated Quinnipiac duo Patrick Sell/Sebastian Barbero, 8-4, while Reece Breault/R.J. Mirabile were edged by the Bobcats' Kei Ezaka/Ambrosio, 8-6.
 
A Look at the Bobcats: Quinnipiac is 5-5 on the season so far. The Bobcats have posted victories over St. Francis Brooklyn, Siena, UConn, Rider, and Delaware and have fallen to Brown, Saint Joseph's, South Dakota State, Creighton, and Valparaiso. In their fall season, Quinnipiac competed in five tournaments including the Stony Brook Invitational, UConn Invitational, Quinnipiac Invitational, ITA Regionals, and the Connecticut State Championships. The Bobcats are coming off a 7-0 loss to Valparaiso on March 13.  
 
Last Time Out: The Stags fell to the St. John's Red Storm, 6-1, on March 16 at the Life Time Athletic Center in Harrison, N.Y. Fairfield's lone point of the day came at No. 2 singles, where Solomon edged the Red Storm's Lucas Hejhal, 7-5, 6-4.
 
Looking Ahead: Fairfield will continue action at home. The Stags will host Villanova on March 29 before hosting Army on March 30.
