Women's Lacrosse Travels to New Hampshire on Friday

FAIRFIELD, Conn. - The Fairfield University women's lacrosse team will travel to New Hampshire on Friday, March 14 to compete against the Wildcats at Cowell Stadium. The game is set for 3pm.

Fairfield (3-2) vs. New Hampshire: The two teams met last season in Fairfield, Conn. where the Stags defeated the Wildcats, 16-9. Fairfield has taken the last two meetings and is 2-4 all-time against New Hampshire dating back to 2004.
 
A Look at the Wildcats: New Hampshire is 3-4 on the season. The Wildcats have posted victories over Hofstra, UConn, and Iona and have fallen to Boston College, Dartmouth, Lehigh, and UMass. New Hampshire returns standout Laura Puccia. Last season, Puccia scored 30 goals with three assists for a total of 33 points. So far this year, Puccia is the Wildcats' leading scorer, tallying 18 goals. Goalkeeper Taylor Hurwitz has manned the net for New Hampshire. This season, Hurwitz has tallied 66 saves with a save percentage of .493.
 
Last Time Out: The Stags defeated Vermont, 10-9, on March 8 at Alumni Field. Melanie Raso and Colleen Reynolds scored three goals apiece for the Stags, who also received goals from Julieanne Mascera, Courtney Chmil, and Jenna Slowey. Play was back and forth until Fairfield took a 4-3 lead at 13:12 in the first half and never looked back. At halftime, the Stags led the Catamounts, 6-5. Both teams scored another four goals in the second half but Fairfield stayed ahead, handing Vermont their first loss of the season.   
 
Weekly Winners: Senior Melanie Raso and sophomore Chelsey Sidaras earned Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) weekly honors for their stellar performances in the Stags' two home victories over Lehigh and Vermont. Raso was named the MAAC Offensive Player of the Week while Sidaras garnered MAAC Defensive Player of the Week honors.
 
Raso earned her first weekly award of the season by tallying a combined seven goals. In the March 4 win over Lehigh, Raso scored four of the team's seven goals, one of which was the game-winner. It is her seventh MAAC weekly award as a Stag.

Sidaras tallied a combined 10 saves for the Stags. Between the two games, Sidaras played the full 120 minutes and earned a save percentage of .417. It is her first weekly award of the season and her second as a Stag.
 
Looking Ahead: After tomorrow's contest, Fairfield will continue action on the road. The Stags will travel to Storrs, Conn. to compete against UConn on March 22 at 1pm.
