STAMFORD, Conn. – The Fairfield University men's tennis team defeated the University of Hartford, 4-0, in dual match play at the Stamford Indoor Tennis Club last night.
The Stags did not lose a match, lifting the men to a 4-1 overall record.
Senior Ian Tesmond never gave up a game against the Hawks' Jordan Badenko, 6-0, 6-0, and then teamed up with junior Cameron Amyot to defeat Hartford duo Nicholas Sharwarko and Morgan White, 6-2. At No. 2 singles, George Tioutine defeated Sharwarko, 6-3, 6-0. In the No. 3 spot, Ofir Solomon downed Hartford's Alex Holdstein, 6-1, 6-1. In the No. 4-6 singles spots, the Stags were all in the lead before the matches were called. Amyot was ahead of the Hawks' Juan Molina, 6-4, 3-1, in No. 4 singles while Bjorn Merinder was up, 6-0, 6-4, over White in the five spot. Rounding out singles play was rookie Peter Colliard who led Hartford's Harrison Max, 6-5 (7-2), 2-0.
Solomon partnered with Tioutine, at No. 2 doubles, to lead the Hawks' pair Holdstein and Molina, 5-3, before the match was called. Fairfield duo Merinder and Colliard defeated Hartford duo Badenko and Luis Montes, 6-0, in the number three spot.
Fairfield will return to the courts on February 8 when the Stags compete against Yale in New Haven, Conn. at 4pm.
