Men's Tennis Sweeps UConn, 7-0

MANCHESTER, Conn. – The Fairfield University men's tennis team defeated UConn, 7-0, in dual match play at the Manchester Racquet Club this afternoon.

Fairfield did not lose a point all day, lifting the Stags to a 6-2 overall record.

In the No. 1 singles spot, senior Ian Tesmond defeated the Huskies' Jacob Spreyer, 6-4, 6-4. At No. 2 singles, George Tioutine defeated UConn's Chris Toner, 6-4, 6-4. In the No. 3 spot, Ofir Solomon downed the Huskies' Ryan Carr, 6-3, 6-2. Dennis Zlobinsky beat Parker Goldstein, 6-0, 6-4, in the No. 4 spot while Cameron Amyot edged UConn's Andrew Ginzberg, 7-6, 0-6, 10-8, in the No. 5 spot. Rounding out singles play for the Stags was Bjorn Merinder who defeated Zac McEntee, 6-3, 6-3.  
 
At No. 1 doubles, Husky duo Spreyer/Toner defeated Stag duo Tesmond/Amyot, 8-5. Tioutine partnered with Zlobinsky, at No. 2 doubles, to defeat UConn pair Carr and Goldstein, 8-5. Clinching the doubles point for the Stags was duo Solomon and Merinder, who defeated Husky duo Palmer and McEntee, 8-5.
 
Fairfield will return to the courts on March 1 when the Stags travel to Charleston, S.C. to face Citadel.
