Women's Lacrosse Travels to Holy Cross on Wednesday

FAIRFIELD, Conn. - The Fairfield University women's lacrosse team will travel to Worcester, Mass. to face Holy Cross on Wednesday, February 26 at the Holy Cross Field. The game is set for 4pm.

Fairfield vs. Holy Cross: Fairfield last met Holy Cross on February 27, 2013 in Fairfield, Conn. where the Stags defeated the Crusaders in a 12-6 decision. Fairfield is 4-1 in its last five meetings with Holy Cross. The lone loss was on April 6, 2010 when the Stags fell in a 14-12 overtime decision in Worcester, Mass. Tomorrow's game with be the 14th meeting between the teams since 1997.
 
A Look at the Crusaders: Holy Cross is 0-3 on the season so far. The Crusaders have fallen to Bryant, UMass, and Yale. Holy Cross returns standouts Laura Ryan and Sara Hennessey. Last season, Ryan scored 36 goals with seven assists for a total of 43 points while Hennessey tallied 35 goals with six assists to total 41 points.  So far this year, Ryan and Hennessey are the Crusaders' leading scorers, tallying six goals apiece. Senior goalkeeper Sarah Weber mans the net for Holy Cross. This season, Weber has tallied 19 saves with a save percentage of .388.
 
Last Time Out: The Stags were edged by Rutgers University, 6-5, on February 22 at the Rutgers Stadium Complex in Piscataway, N.J. Senior captain Melanie Raso scored twice for the Stags, who also received goals from Courtney Chmil, Jamie Leoneand Maeve Quinn. The game remained scoreless for most of the first half until Chmil put the Stags on the board at 13:11. Raso netted a second goal at 5:21. The Scarlet Knights tallied a goal about two minutes later but were unable to score again in the half, giving the Stags a 2-1 advantage into halftime. Shortly into the second half, Rutgers tied the game and then took the lead with two back-to-back goals. The Scarlet Knights extended their lead with two more goals, but the Stags answered with a goal by Quinn at 19:03. After Rutgers scored once more, Fairfield scored a set of consecutive goals at 6:45 and 2:18. However, in the remaining minutes, the Stags were unable to get off a shot, yielding a 6-5 victory for Rutgers. Sophomore Chelsey Sidaras manned the net for the Stags, making eight saves, while the Scarlet Knights' Currell tallied 10. Despite Rutgers having a slight 20-18 advantage in shots, the Stags had an 11-10 advantage in ground balls.
 
Looking Ahead: Fairfield (0-2) will return home for their next two contests. The Stags will host Lehigh on March 3 and Vermont on March 8.
