Men's Tennis Travels to UConn Tomorrow

FAIRFIELD, Conn. - The Fairfield University men's tennis team will travel to Manchester, Conn. to face UConn on Wednesday, February 26 at the Manchester Racquet Club. The first serve is set for 2pm.
 
Fairfield vs. UConn: Wednesday's match will be the first time the Stags and the Huskies have faced one another in dual play since March 20, 2012. In that match, Fairfield defeated UConn, 7-0, in Storrs, Conn. The Stags and the Huskies have already met this season at the Quinnipiac Invitational on October 4-6 and the Connecticut State Championships on October 25-27. At the Quinnipiac Invitational, Tyler Parks defeated UConn's Andrew Ginzberg, 9-8 (7-4), while Reece Breault was edged by the Huskies' Joshua Palmer, 3-6, 6-2, 8-10. At the Connecticut State Championships, Cameron Amyot defeated Ginzberg, 2-6, 6-5, 1-0, before falling to Chris Toner, 6-5, 6-2. Amyot paired up with Ian Tesmond to defeat Husky duo Parker Cohen/Mark HoSang, 8-3. Bjorn Merinder fell to Toner, 0-6, 6-2, 0-1, while rookie Peter Colliard defeated Palmer, 6-3, 2-6, 1-0. Fairfield pair Merinder/Colliard fell to UConn pair Ginzberg/Zac McEntee, 8-3. Ofir Solomon topped McEntee, 6-2, 6-1, before falling to Husky duo Wayne Harrell/Ryan Carr, 8-6, with partner Dennis Zlobinsky.
 
A Look at the Huskies: UConn is 3-5 on the season. The Huskies have posted victories over Hartford, Boston University, and Siena and have fallen to Quinnipiac, Marist, Stony Brook, Army, and Boston University. In their fall season, UConn competed in five tournaments including the Brown Invitational, UConn Invitational, Quinnipiac Invitational, Regional Championships, and the Connecticut State Championships. The Huskies are coming off a 7-0 loss to Boston University on February 19.  
 
Last Time Out: Fairfield defeated Fairleigh Dickinson, 4-1, on February 22 at the Stamford Indoor Tennis Club in Stamford, Conn. The Stags posted singles victories in the No. 2, No. 4, and No. 5 spots. At No. 2 doubles, Fairfield pair George Tioutine and Zlobinsky defeated Fairleigh Dickinson's Jacob Whalley and Arnaud Valentin, 8-7(1), whileSolomon/Merinder edged Diogo Garnel/Julien Philippe, 8-7(2), in the No. 3 spot. At No. 1 doubles, Stags duo Tesmond/Amyot were playing Knights duo Arvis Berzins/Gonzalo Quintana when the match was called. After winning the doubles point, Fairfield took a 1-0 lead into singles play. At No. 2 singles, Tioutine defeated Fairleigh Dickinson's Whalley, 6-4, 6-4, while Solomon downed the Knights' Garnel, 6-1, 6-1, in the No. 4 spot. The final point for the Stags was tallied by Amyot, who defeated Valentin, 6-3, 6-0, at No. 5 singles. Fairleigh Dickinson's only point came when Quintana edged Zlobinsky, 6-3, 6-4, in the No. 3 spot. Rounding out singles play in the No. 1 and No. 6 spots were Tesmond and Merinder, whose matches were unfinished.
 
Looking Ahead: Fairfield (5-2) will continue action on the road, stopping at Citadel on March 1 before returning home to host Lafayette on March 8.
