FLUSHING, N.Y. - Fairfield University's Nicole Aragones and Sarah Stuhlmann from the women's tennis team wrapped up play at the USTA BJK NTC Women's College Invitational on Sunday, October 5. The three-day event was held at the USTA National Tennis Center in Flushing, N.Y.
The Stags started the tournament with doubles play. The pair fell to UConn's Srna Stosljevic/Zaina Zaki, 8-2, before being edged by UT Arlington's Astrid Gehre/Augustina Serio, 8-2, in the round of 16.
In Flight A singles, Stuhlmann defeated NJIT's Carolina Zanotta, 6-1, 6-4, before falling to Anna Morozova, 6-2, 6-2, from St. John's. In the round of 16, Stuhlmann was defeated, 6-1, 6-1, by Charleston Southern's Yvonne Hubler.
In Flight B singles, Aragones defeated Fordham's Sarah Ali, 6-1, 6-3, before falling to Harvard's Ellen Jang-Milsten, 6-0, 6-0. In the round of 16, Aragones was defeated, 6-2, 6-1 by UT Arlington's Gehre.
The Fairfield women's tennis team will continue action on the road. The Stags will travel to New Haven, Conn. to compete in the ITA Regional on October 17-21.
