FAIRFIELD, Conn. – All of the numbers are starting to go in the way of the Stags. For the second-straight match the Stags hit over .300 as they defeated Saint Peter's 3-1 (25-20, 25-15, 21-25, 25-10) on Sunday. It was the sixth win in Fairfield's last seven matches.
“We did some quality things offensively, first ball contact,” Head Coach Todd Kress said. “We're starting to get our middles more involved in transition and Carsen Mata is really doing a good job these past couple of matches running the offense.”
Six different Stags hit over .250 as Fairfield finished with 62 kills on just 16 errors.
“That's exactly what we're trying to do,” Kress said. “Get everybody involved in the pins and still have the opponent take a look at some back row attacks. We always talk about having four attackers in transition…and if we're able to do that we're pretty tough to defend.”
The Stags (12-10, 8-4 MAAC) took the first set by a 25-20 mark led by Mata's three kills on three tips. Mata also had 13 assists on 32 chances. Fairfield used a 7-0 run to make the score 9-5 and would not trail again in the set.
