The Fairfield University women's golf team opened the 2013 fall season with an opening round 330 at the Tignanelli Towson Classic at Towson Golf & Country Club in Phoenix, Md. The 36-hole event concludes Monday.
Emma Ritzmann is tied for 15th after the first 18 holes of the event, carding an opening round 78, just four strokes off of the lead. The junior opened with a par on her first hole, the 10th, and finished her round with a birdie on the ninth. Olivia Brooks carded 10 pars on the afternoon, and is tied for 30th at +10, after a round of 82.
Katie Rockwell is a stroke behind Brooks, carding an 83 on the opening day, and is tied for 39th. She carded a birdie two on the 16th hole, her seventh off the round, for her fifth hole of par or better to that point. Kate Heffernan and Danielle Dalessandro are tied for 59th, shooting matching rounds of 87 on Sunday. Heffernan had a birdie two on the sixth-hole, while Dalessandro scored six pars in her collegiate debut.
The Stags are back in action with Dalessandro teeing off of number one at 8 a.m. Monday morning. Heffernan (8:09), Rockwell (8:18), Brooks (8:28) and Ritzmann (8:36) following, with players from Towson and Hartford in the pairings. Fans can follow live scoring via Golf Stat.
The University of Delaware is the team leader after one-round, with a team score of 308. Bethune-Cookman University's Jennifer Hide and Andrea Orozco are tied for the individual lead, both shooting rounds of 74 on Monday.
