BROOKLINE, Mass. -- The Fairfield University men's soccer team fell behind early and was not able to recover against Northeastern University as the Stags dropped a 5-2 decision to the Huskies. The game was the Stags' first road game of the season.

Northeastern opened the scoring in the 18th minute when a misplayed ball found its way onto the foot Terence Carter who redirected the loose ball into the Fairfield net. The Huskies doubled up their advantage just before the first half when Donovan Fayd's corner kick was converted into a goal after Devin Devoy rose over the Stags' defense and headed the ball into the back of the net with under two minutes remaining in the half.

The home team continued to build upon its lead with a goal just two minutes into the second half as Dante Marini tallied his first goal of the season by sending the ball into the lower corner, converting a pass from Mike Lobben. Marini would set up the team's fourth goal in the 61st minute, sending a ball to Carter who dribbled by his defender and sent the ball into the goal for a 4-0 lead. The Huskies posted their final goal of the game five minutes later when Devoy posted his second goal off a header, a play which was set up off a cross from the right side.

Jon Clements broke up the shutout attempt when he netted his first goal of the season with an unassisted goal in the 74th minute. The Stags were awarded their second goal following Northeastern knocking the ball into its own net following a corner kick with under a minute remaining.

Fairfield goalkeeper Joe Martin made five saves while his counterpart Dylan Faber was forced to make four saves. The Stags return to the pitch on September 13 when they head to Yale University for a 7 pm match up with the Bulldogs.
