FAIRFIELD, Conn. - The Fairfield University men's tennis team defeated Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) opponent Rider University, 7-0, in dual match play at the Walsh Athletic Center Tennis Courts this afternoon.
The Stags did not lose a match all day, earning a 1-0 conference record.
Senior Ian Tesmond defeated Rollie Malfitano, 6-1, 6-0, and then teamed up with junior Cameron Amyot to defeat Rider duo Malfitano and Nick Lubold, 8-0. Ofir Solomon never gave up a game playing at No. 2 singles defeating Adam Levi. At the No. 3 singles spot, Amyot downed Nick Lubold, 6-2, 6-1. Rookie Peter Colliard made his collegiate debut in the number four spot, beating Ed Chogllo, 8-1. Solomon partnered with Colliard, at No. 2 doubles, to defeat Rider pair Levi and Ed Chogllo, 8-1. Fairfield duo Bjorn Merinder and Reece Breault defeated Rider duo Sean Sweeney and Kyle Stratton, 8-3, in the number three spot. Rounding out singles play in the five and six spots with victories, were Merinder and R.J. Mirabile.
Fairfield (1-0) will return to the courts on September 20 when the Stags compete at Flushing, N.Y., in the USTA Invitational.
