Men's Tennis Squad Finishes the Weekend at Quinnipiac Invitational

HAMDEN, Conn. - A squad from the Fairfield University men's tennis team matched up against Bentley, Bryant, Hartford, Quinnipiac, Sacred Heart, and UConn at the 2013 Quinnipiac Invitational this past weekend. The Stags competed in singles play at the two-day event which took place at Quinnipiac University's Outdoor Tennis Facility. 

In Flight B singles, Bjorn Merinder fell to Hartford's Alex Holdstein, 6-1, 4-6, 10-6, in the first round. Freshman Peter Colliard also fell in the first round to Quinnipiac's Eric Ambrosio, 6-0, 6-3. In the Flight B consolation bracket, both Merinder and Colliard advanced to the semifinals. Merinder defeated Bentley's Chase Rosa, 8-5, in the quarterfinals before falling to Sacred Heart's Kevin Budrawich, 8-2. Colliard defeated Bentley's Kamil Pilch, 9-8 (0), in the quarterfinals before falling to Bryant's Mohsen 9-8 (7).

In Flight C singles, R.J. Mirabile fell to Bryant's Munir Serin, 6-0, 6-0, while Tyler Parks fell to the Bulldog's Phillip Kim, 6-0, 6-3, in the first round. In the Flight C consolation bracket, both Mirabile and Parks advanced to the semifinals. Mirabile fell to Sacred Heart's Luka Bagi, 8-6, in the semifinals. Bagi proceeded to win the Flight C consolation bracket. Parks defeated UConn's Andrew Ginzberg, 9-8 (4), in the quarterfinals before falling to Sacred Heart's James Bogdanovich, 8-3.

In Flight D singles, Reece Breault defeated Sacred Heart's Ryan Wennberg, 7-6 (8), 7-5, before falling to UConn's Joshua Palmer, 6-3, 2-6, 10-8, in the quarterfinals.

The Fairfield men's tennis team will return to the courts on October 17-20 for the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Regional in New Haven, Conn.
