NEW YORK, N.Y. - A squad from the Fairfield University men's tennis team matched up against Columbia, Dartmouth, Fairleigh Dickinson, Monmouth, and UT Arlington at the 2013 Columbia Invitational this past weekend. The Stags competed in singles and doubles play at the two-day event which took place at Columbia University's Dick Savitt Tennis Center.
In Flight B singles, Dennis Zlobinsky fell to UTA's Daniel Armengol, 6-2, 6-3, in the first round. In the Flight B consolation bracket, Zlobinsky advanced to the semifinals. Zlobinsky defeated FDU's Arnaud Valentin, 6-5 (1), 6-2, in the quarterfinals before falling to Dartmouth's Brandon Debot, 5-6, 6-1, 10-8. Debot proceeded to win the Flight B consolation bracket.
In Flight C singles, Cameron Amyot fell to Columbia's Chris Sabitais, 6-0, 3-6, 6-4, in the first round. In the quarterfinals of the Flight C consolation bracket, Amyot fell to Dartmouth's Blake Niehaus, 2-6, 6-2, 10-6, who proceeded to win the bracket championship.
In Flight B doubles, Amyot/Zlobinsky fell to Monmouth's Viera/Switzer, 8-7, in the first round.
The Fairfield men's tennis team will return to the courts on October 17-20 for the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Regional in New Haven, Conn.
